Imagine you're waiting at a bus stop.
You take a look at the person standing next to you, and you see it's an elderly woman with a shopping bag in her hand. She looks a little sad.

Wouldn't you want to cheer her up a bit?
Why don't you just talk to her?
Share something of your feelings and thoughts?
What's stopping you from talking to this lady?

We believe that having a conversation is very important for our well-being, much more than having a lot of money or being successful. Our social nature makes us human. Being social is essential for us, essential for you and for me.

Our project "You Can Talk To Me" is a first step into a new world of sharing and openness.

Imagine walking through the streets of your neighborhood, and talking to strangers as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Imagine people who you have never met before, taking an interest in you, in how you feel and what you need. Maybe they are willing to help you out, perhaps they would lend you something, perhaps they would help you carry luggage, perhaps they would give you something to eat if you're hungry - or even a place to sleep.

Unfortunately, in our society, when strangers begin to talk to us, it usually means that they want something. We get suspicious. We don't even expect it to just happen. We would like to change these expectations, to make it easier for people to openly communicate.

To help, we use a simple visible sign to indicate our own openness, that we are ready to converse without a specific reason. You don't have to be afraid to talk to us, because you can see our intentions right away! We want to invite you to be part of our lives even if we don't know you.

And you can do the same - encourage strangers to talk to you.

It's really simple, all you have to do is to put on a "You Can Talk To Me" sticker, button or wristband. (We plan to do other things as well, like T-shirts or caps).

So then everyone knows:
I'd be pleased to talk with you!

You can do this on your own initiative. You don't even need to rely on any organisation.

You can for instance, print and wear your own stickers, and distribute them to people you know and meet.

We would like to reach as many people as possible! Encourage all who are willing to make a difference in this world.

You can make a difference!

Just to tell someone about this idea might be enough to change a life, to add sunshine to a dull day. A person in need will have someone to talk to that wasn't there before. We are not helpless and we can do something to stop the ongoing alienation from each other. We are doing something.

It would be amazing if you could help us to change the world, even if it's just a little bit. Some people may be skeptical for any reasons.

You don't have to listen to them.

There are enough people who are positive and full of hope, who envision a better future for everyone, for the young, the old and the children, for the lonely, the outcast, the strangers and the displaced, for those that are looked down upon.

Help us to make this world a better place for you and for me. Michael Jackson expressed this very well in his song "Heal The World":

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make it a better place
For you and for me

It doesn't take much from each of us, if we all join in this effort to improve our world. Every new contact you make can make a difference.

Thank you for reading. We hope to talk to you soon somewhere on the street 8-)
